CLARET & GOLD
The Claret & Gold Association was formed 28 years ago by Ernie Neeley, Ron Goodale and George Hinds.
Their wise and initial conception was to provide a rallying point for all former players and to issue an annual newsletter to keep everyone, particularly those who had moved away from the north west, informed of the clubs fortunes. It was soon discovered that many of these far-flung players were spread throughout the world. This annual newsletter continues to this day and has been compiled by successive Chairmen of the C&G Association.
Nowadays the Membership of the C&G Association consists of Former Players and Devotees of SPRUFC, who raise much needed funds to provide capital investments to our rugby club when required.
To achieve these objectives, we are anxious to shake off our “Saga Louts’ image even though we recognise this as a fond term of endearment. In its place we desire to attract younger former players and devotees of the club to both join the committee and support our endeavours. Some of the current committee are approaching the “80 Minute’ mark for Committee work and we need enthusiastic younger members to join us to continue the good work.
£7500
Last year the C&G Committee and Members have raised £7,500 through Membership subscription, C&G Lottery, the 200 Club to name a few of the fundraising activities.
£100,000
The Claret & Gold Association has raised over £100,000 since its formation all those years ago. This is a testament to the hard work of its members past and present.
THE 200 CLUB
The 200 is a monthly draw that pays out prizes of £100, £50, & £25.
In addition, there is annual Christmas draw with a prize of £250 & an additional £250 prize awarded in July.
The draw will consist of (up to) 200 numbers & the draw will take place every month.
You can enter the draw by donating £4 a month by direct debit. The entry forms are available from Trevor Lewis (trevorlewis860@gmail.com) or any member of the Claret & Gold.
THE SCORLINE LOTTERY
This uses 16 clubs from National League One and Two North. The teams will be given allocated a number for the last 10 games of a season.
For-example, if the top three scoring clubs were Fylde, Richmond and Sedgley Park and you had this combination of clubs on your ticket you would receive £100
The cost of a Scoreline Lottery ticket is £5. The ticket will contain ten separate lottery weeks & every week will payout £100 to the winner.
Tickets are available from Barrie Owen or ask a Claret & Gold member for information.
GUESS THE SCORE GAME
At every 1st XV home game, we’ll be running a simple and exciting game:
Just guess the final score of the match, and the closest entry wins 50% of the day’s pot!
Here’s how it works:
- Tickets will be sold on match day.
- Minis & Juniors will be selling tickets, and in return, their section will receive 25% of the ticket sales.
- The Claret and Gold will retain the remaining 25% to continue investing in long-term improvements for the club.
Your support helps everyone — you get a chance to win, the Minis & Juniors gain valuable funds, and C&G continues its mission to invest in our club’s future.
Let’s make this a success together. Thank you in advance for your support — and good luck guessing!
