It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jon Lewis, who died on 22 January 2026 at Heathlands Village Care Home.
Jon had been suffering from vascular dementia for the past few years and later developed pneumonia.
Jon will be remembered for his always-go-forward attitude, big tackles, and ability to read the game. His loyalty to SPRUFC was never in doubt, even when asked to play rugby at a higher level. He was a proper clubman and the corner where he sat drinking his pints (very quickly) is a lot emptier without his presence.
Jon was one of the best No. 8s ever to pull on a Sedgley jersey. He held the club record for scoring 34 tries in the 1981–82 season and captained the club in 1985–86.
The funeral will be held at East Lancashire (Radcliffe) Crematorium, Cemetery Road, Radcliffe, M26 4EU, at 12:30.
This will be followed by a celebration of Jon’s life at Sedgley Park RUFC.
