Match Report – Blackheath 31–3 Sedgley Park Tigers

On Saturday, the Tigers made their third trip to London this season to face old rivals Blackheath, sitting third in the league with nine wins and only three defeats. After mixed away results, Sedgley were determined to deliver a strong, positive performance.

Last season’s meetings were evenly split, and the Tigers began brightly — aggressive carries and solid set pieces gave early momentum. A penalty after four minutes was calmly converted by fly half Oli Glasse to make it 3–0. The forwards dominated collisions, and the lineout functioned well, but Blackheath’s experienced defence held firm.

The hosts struck back on 26 minutes through a catch-and-drive try, converted to lead 7–3. Just before halftime, Sedgley were reduced to fourteen men after Glasse saw yellow, and they trailed narrowly at the break.

The second half began badly as Blackheath crossed twice in the opening seven minutes — their hooker scoring both to complete a brace and extend the lead to 19–3. Despite the setback, Sedgley showed composure, maintaining possession and building phases inside the home 22, but chances went begging.

A second yellow card on 57 minutes further hampered the comeback, and although the Tigers fought hard, Blackheath finished strongly, adding two late tries — their hooker completing a hat-trick.

The final score of 31–3 didn’t reflect Sedgley’s effort. The set piece was solid, physicality high, and attitude excellent throughout. The Tigers now take a short break before hosting Plymouth Albion on December 6th — another big test at Park Lane.
