Match Report – Sedgley Park Tigers 26–50 Plymouth Albion

Last Saturday, the Tigers hosted their final home game of 2025 against high-flying Plymouth Albion, who arrived third in the league after defeating leaders Rotherham Titans. It was always going to be a huge challenge against a well-drilled, physical side.

The day was extra special for winger Andy Riley, making his 300th appearance for Sedgley Park — a remarkable milestone for a player who, like his brother Matt, has given everything to the club across many seasons.

Conditions were poor, with heavy rain and a soft pitch, but the Tigers started superbly. After just six minutes, a powerful lineout drive saw hooker Ben Gregory crash over, converted by Oli Glasse for 7–0.

Plymouth responded swiftly with a converted try, then added another on 22 minutes to lead 12–7.

Sedgley hit back when Rhys Henderson broke from 40 metres, beating four defenders before feeding full back Josh Ree, who finished brilliantly. Glasse converted — 14–12 Tigers.

Plymouth struck twice before halftime, leaving it 24–14 to the visitors after an excellent, competitive first half.

An early second-half try extended Plymouth’s lead, but Sedgley refused to fold. Billy Addy powered over to make it 31–21, then Ree added his second try to narrow it to 26–31.

However, Albion’s fitness and accuracy told late on. Their relentless forwards added three more tries, two in the final minutes, sealing a 50–26 win.

Despite the scoreline, Sedgley’s effort, set piece, and spirit impressed. Four tries earned a bonus point — a small reward on a tough afternoon.

Next up: a huge away trip to league leaders Rotherham Titans.
